Original oil paintings by Pembrokeshire-born expressive artist

Rhian is a scientist who has been painting the natural environment with oils since her graduation in July 2010 with a First Class Honours Degree in Coastal and Marine Environment Studies.  She also received the Coastal & Marine Award 2010 given by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

She says: 'The inspiration for embarking on my first serious painting project had come during my degree studies of the marine environment, and my deeper and broader understanding of the science.  What took me most by surprise - during my studies and beyond - was the critical relationship between science and art, and how each was to prove a vital support for the other.  What had escaped me until then was now so obvious.'

Her DEEPWATER paintings, which have been on exhibition at the National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff from July 2012, have proved extremely popular and have recently won her a commission by the RSPB Cymru to paint Ramsey Island.  Since then, two of her new paintings supporting the RSPB project FAME (Future of the Atlantic Marine Environment) have toured the UK.  These oil paintings on stretched linen depict guillemots and razorbills diving off the Island of Colonsay, Scotland.  They can be viewed in the Deepwater Gallery on Rhian's website..
