Katharine studied Fine Art Painting at Brighton University and teacher training at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2007.  She subsequently moved to Haverfordwest and worked for two years as an art teacher - and, helped by her new surroundings, has recently found a renewed confidence in her work as an artist.

Katharine has always painted landscapes, and in particular scenes featuring trees as they hold an almost spiritual significance for her.  She has taken inspiration from trees all over Pembrokeshire, most recently the sculptural exposed roots along the Rhos.  The variation of light and colour found around trees interests her, together with their elegant, curving lines.  She is influenced by artists including Graham Sutherland, who loved Pembrokeshire and had a strong sense of composition.  Katharine uses acrylic paints as they allow her to work quickly, layering colours as she chooses.  She aims to contrast controlled, deliberate composition with playful, heightened colour.
