About her ceramic sculptures Valerie says, 'I hope they are revealing, mysterious and informative'.
Scenes of ancient myth and the exploration of the conscious and unconscious mind underpin her work: strange noble figures on horseback from the Mabinogion and exotic boxes referencing classic myth are reinterpreted. The pieces present a continuing exploration of the cusp between the ordinary and the extraordinary.
Valerie's works are stoneware using rough crank clay and smooth textured white earthstone. They are decorated sparingly with oxides and underglazes applied on greenware with a final top layer of transparent or opaque matt glaze.
Valerie trained in painting and sculpture at UCW Aberystwyth and her studio is in North Pembrokeshire. She teaches fine art to children at The Little Art School in Newcastle Emlyn.
