Although trained in woven textiles, Barbara's main passion remains painting (oils, watercolor, pastels and acrylics) as it enables more freedom.  Her techniques vary with the subject matter.  However, the textile influence can be seen throughout her work in its bold use of colour and texture.  The Pembrokeshire landscape and its people also have a strong influence, combined with an interest in the effect of shadows and the balance of tonal values.  Her recent artwork has been influenced by stained-glass ideas and patchwork designs, to create a 'kaleidoscope effect'.

She has also been teaching art to adults in Fishguard since 1995.

Barbara writes:

'Since being dignosed with breast cancer in December 2012, I have been keeping a visual diary and have painted 66 paintings showing how the diagnosis has affected my work. I have finished my treatment and am now getting on with my life, but found painting so helpful during my illness.
