The oldest independent museum in Wales, having been formed in 1878, Tenby Museum and Art Gallery stands on the promontory of Castle Hill with spectacular views overlooking Carmarthen Bay. The museum houses various collections of geology, archaeology, maritime, natural history, social history and two art galleries – and through these displays the visitor can trace the changing fortunes of the town from its earliest times through to the present day.
Amongst the artists on permanent show are Gwen and Augustus John, David Jones, John Piper, Kyffin Williams, Claudia Williams and John Knapp-Fisher. There is a second art gallery which shows frequently changing art shows. The visitor experience is also enhanced by the availability of an audio tour, a gift shop and a refreshment area, from where visitors can enjoy the outstanding natural views.
Opening times:
Summer, 10 am – 5 pm daily (last admission, 4.30 pm)
Winter, 10am – 5pm Monday – Friday (last admission, 4.30 pm)
